The early Scottish Highland settlers that came to Cape Breton brought their song traditions with them when they "waulked" the cloth, singing as they milled it around table.
This is a social and musical occasion still recreated in today's Cape Breton. Mary Jane Lamond will lead this event, which is a "sing after me" format in a group seated around a table. There is no experience necessary in either song or Gaelic. It is the purest of oral traditions, and a lot of fun. Vancouver Island University Cafeteria.
