Wendy Humphreys Tebbutt (British Columbia)
Wendy Humphreys Tebbutt
has the extraordinarily gifted ability to entertain and captivate,
bringing audiences to their feet. Accompanying her voice on the
Celtic harp, Wendy is well known for her performing and teaching
of a variety of music, ranging from the well-loved folk songs
of the British Isles and Canada to bright and witty songs written
for her. Praising her talent, the Toronto Sun noted: "Wendy Humphreys'
sensitive performance of the (Hebridean) folk songs to her own
harp accompaniment completely captured her audience." Wendy trained
musically at the Royal Manchester College of Music (England),
the Mozarteum (Salzburg, Austria), the Banff Centre (Academy of
Singing and Festival Opera), as well as the University of BC and
University of Alberta Opera departments.
Before winning the Metropolitan
Opera Auditions (Western Canada) and moving to Toronto, Wendy
played harp for the Vancouver and Edmonton Symphony and Opera
Orchestras for a total of six seasons. She has performed in recitals,
chamber concerts, opera, oratorio and musical theatre across Canada.
Wendy has also performed with such groups as the Toronto Operetta
Theatre, TO Opera-In-Concert, Music From Sharon, the National
Ballet, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, and the Allegre and
Orford String Quartets. With regard to voice, her operatic roles
have included Gretel, Norina, The Fairy Godmother (Cendrillon),
Lakme, Susanna, Zerbinetta, and Princess of the Stars.
Wendy's students have
won national and international competitions; won scholarships
to Banff Centre, Aspen and Aldeburgh Festivals; have sung in opera,
chamber music, and oratorio, as well as in musical theatre shows
such as CATS, Phantom of the Opera, Show Boat, and at the Shaw
and Stratford Festivals.
As an extension of her
recording, performing and teaching careers, Wendy became a specialised
kinesiology practitioner and instructor. She continues to teach
young and professional musicians; but presently her main focus
is teaching courses in Performers' Kinesiology Techniques to performing
arts organisations and at educational institutions throughout
Canada. She has created a stress release and performance enhancement
program for performers and athletes, called "Performing on the
Right Side of the Brain", which she teaches at the University
of Toronto. She has presented this material for the N.A.T.S. teachers'
workshop, the ORMTA Conference 2000, and has been invited to present
this in singing masterclasses in Brazil. Wendy
is also teaching in the Performance Enhancement Program |
