Hi:
I've just stumbled on to your site. I've gone to the Celtic Music Summer School in Roberts Creek for four out of the last six years.
I will be registering for yours next year. I'm a fiddler and beginning piper, so your school seems to have all the cool things. See you in 2008!

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND YOUR DANCERS!! We especially remember Adam from the Cottars concert - he seemed to be as at home in the air as on the ground - it looked as if both were very natural locations for him to be! You and Rene are a wonderful gift to so very many people in Nanaimo and beyond in all that you offer to our community. Many thanks !! - and we certainly enjoyed the (MacGillvary) Cottars concert once again! Blessings... Valerie Smith |

21, 2005 11:21 PM Greetings! What a wonderful time our family had at
Celtfest 2005. It was a great learning experience and in such a beautiful
venue at that. Sarah Fay, Kathlene and Bernadette made a host of new friends
plus were inspired by their extremely talented and personable instructors.
Eileen McGann inspired them with her collection of songs and song writing
technique plus her fantastic knot work classes. Julie Fowlis and Eilidh
MacLeod may have visitors next summer. Not only do the girls want to continue
with their Gaelic Songs and Harp taught in these classes but are also
serious about touring in Scotland and Ireland next festival session. Julie
and Eilidh were such a delight to work with and the girls derived a wealth
of knowledge from their classes. You can be sure we will be back next
year. I'd like to close by saying "Thanks" to you and all the people who
worked so hard to make Celtfest 2005 so successful. It was a joy to attend! Sincerely, Sandra, Sarah Fay, Kathlene, & Bernadette McShane. |
| :Dave.Bartawrote on December 2, 2005 Wow!!!! In a word, 'WOW' !!
We thoroughly enjoyed "the Cottars" last night...and what a great job
you and your team did in 30 days to promote and bring such a great show
to Nanaimo...My hat goes off to you as that was a huge undertaking....
I think you must be happy with the turnout (your expectation??) What amazing
voices - that sibling harmony!! The Briar and the Rose ....stunning! Congrats
again on a great job and entertaining evening last night!!! |
| Kathy Beliveau wrote on July 12, 2005: Dear Carolyn, Rene and committee,
I don't think it is possible to convey to you exactly how much we enjoyed
this past week at the Celt Fest. . . but I will try! Teesha, who is still
quite new to Irish Dance was amazed and impressed with the level of so
many of the dancers and inspired very much by the teacher, Cara. Teesha
is in grade 10 and has a strong desire to peruse a career in teaching.
She couldn't say enough about Cara's ability to instruct so many students
at so many different levels with such enthusiasm and encouragement. Maya,
who participated in the full time fiddle program is still floating somewhere
over the moon. She learned so much and seemed more and more confident
about performing as the week went on. She also met some great fiddling
friends and strongly connected with Jenna from the Dochas! She has been
deeply inspired by this experience and has signed on for a session in
playing the tin whistle, at the arts alive in Nanaimo. Also, she is now
saving her money, because she intends to buy a bodhran. She also loved
the Gaelic singing and has been singing along so beautifully to the new
Docha's C.D. The other day, I wandered into my house to find Maya sitting
up on a stool, playing her fiddle fast and furious while her sister Teesha
was Irish dancing to the tune! How beautiful, I was thinking. What a lovely
thing for sisters to do in their free time! My daughters and husband join
me in thanking you for making this fabulous experience possible for us.
As well, I also wanted to comment on the quality of the program in general.
The faculty, the workshops, the nightly recitals, the final gala, . .
. everything was amazing! Maya is already planning for next year! |

to thank you for giving us such an opportunity to experience a truly world
class camp! It was something the children will hold in their hearts forever.
There truly is not a week that goes by that there is not some reference
to the camp or the incredible people who made it all possible. What a
feeling. I never expected to end up with such trust and bonding of people
that I didn't even know the week before. It was an incredible amount of
fun working in that office with John, Neil, Clare, Zac, Shauna to name
a few. Everyone worked so very hard and gave there heart and soul to make
the week a success. As the week wore on, we felt this team like drive
to facilitate the incredible spirit you and Rene have created for sooooo
many people. I smile just thinking about the fun I had. I know the children
were pushed to strive for more. To see that people from all different
walks of life can come together and really connect in a way that you can't
explain. Carolyn you and Rene have given our hearts a gift that can never
be shadowed. For this I thank you. We will be thinking of you all and
the people that helped us during the week. We had the time of our life
that week!! As we were driving away with hearts full and tears streaming,
I felt the children had been changed forever. They have. Our drive home
was full of stories and fiddling down the highways! Wow what a flashback.
I value your contribution to so many people. I think in ways you don't
even realize. Hats off to you!!! Go strong!! |

fiddle program, I could make it a music/ vacation trip. I would like to
tell people about the wonderful instructors from Nova Scotia. Kendra and
Troy MacGillivary. I have known both of them for over 14 yrs. I can say
without hesitation, they are very fine people and great musicians and
teachers. I am a fiddler and piano player from Sydney , Cape Breton ,

Kendra and Troy are highly respected as teachers, musicians, and warm

with another middle aged piper, and both of us started playing somewhat
late in life. We both had a great time. The setting is spectacular. We
expected to see Robin Williams to run across the campus shouting "carpe
diem" at any moment. But seriously, the ability to go outside almost anytime
of day or night and play the pipes adds to the experience. My colleague
and I each had Iain MacCrimmon as our primary instructor and enjoyed his
gentle, but still demanding teaching style. I also liked having the same
instructor for the entire week, as it gives the student and the instructor
the opportunity to work through issues and for the player to demonstrate
progress. The food was actually better than one might expect, the staff
helpful, and everything about the experience rewarding. I expect to be
back in 2003. Thanks again for a great job. Bill Collins Olympia Highlanders |

-- Rene & Carolyn: I am very pleased to be able to say I attended your
inaugural school. I definitely plan to be there again next summer. Don't
tell the Scots, but I think it's the Irish influence that made it such
a great party atmosphere. I don't mean drinking either, tho' I've been
known to quaff an ale on occasion; it's just that everywhere you looked
there was someone dancing. The piping instruction was top notch and the
concert type entertainment was amazing. See you this summer. |

12:39: E-mail: janknotjunk@hotmail.com -- Hi Rene and Carolyn! Thanks
for the opportunity to send greetings to the 2001 alumni. Camp was definitely
a highlight of last summer! It was great to see many of you at Tony's
feis last month (Irish dancers). Hope to see you again soon. As for summer
school 2002, our plans for the summer aren't definite yet. I would like
to bring my daughter along next time (her dancing is in its ascendancy
as mine, alas, is on the wane, clinging often in spirit only.) Ah, but
wait for the Ceilidh, eh! Cheers, all! Jan |
