INSTRUCTOR: Emma Beaton, BC

Celtic Cello

During the week, cellists will be introduced to playing folk fiddle styles on the cello - yes, you really can fiddle on the cello! The week will also include ensemble playing, with other cellists and, towards the end of the week, with the Celtic fiddle group.

We will be learning a selection of folk melodies and will focus on:
  • technique review and development
  • warm up exercises
  • easy, efficient practice techniques
  • groove
  • back-up styles to accompany other players

    Solo Cello objectives:

  • To develop and improve intonation
  • To become a better performer
  • To learn some new tunes
  • To enjoy playing the cello

    Ensemble Playing objectives:

  • To develop and improve the ability to play in unison with other musicians
  • To understand and improve general ensemble playing
  • To explore accompaniment patterns and rhythm
  • To enjoy playing in a group
  • Participants will need to bring their own cello.

Pre-requisites: Participants must have a minimum of 1 year's experience and have a complete knowledge of first position.
