Drumming Faculty Objectives

SNARE DRUMMING:
 

BEGINNER DRUMMING (drum pad or Grade V) - For those who have been playing less than 6 months, and are not part of a drum corps (yet!). Concentration will be on introducing and improving playing technique, introducing and strengthening basic rudiments and music literacy, introducing the idea of musical communication through the use of some basic scores, and improving the understanding of the drummer's role in a pipe band. 

INTERMEDIATE DRUMMING (Grade IV and III) - For those who have been playing in a drum corps, and have a good understanding of the basic rudiments. Concentration will be on improving playing technique and speed, introducing some advanced rudiments, strengthening musical communication through the use of intermediate scores and composition, and understanding the basics of tuning and tone. 

ADVANCED DRUMMING (Grade II+) - For those who have been playing in drum corps for a number of years, and have been Lead Drummers at some time. Concentration will be on refining playing technique, strengthening advanced rudiments, mastering musical communication through the use of advanced scores, composition, and discussions of ensemble, plus how to build a great corps! 
 

TENOR and BASS DRUMMING:

BEGINNER TENOR- For those who have been playing for less than 6 months. Concentration will be on introducing and improving playing/flourishing technique, introducing and strengthening basic rudiments/spins and music literacy, introducing the idea of musical communication through the use of some basic scores, and improving the understanding of the drummer's role in a pipe band. 

ADVANCED TENOR - For those who have been playing in a drum corps for more than 6 months and could compete in tenor/bass drum competitions. Concentration will be on refining playing/flourishing technique, introducing advanced rudiments/spins, refining musical communication through the use of advanced scores and composition, plus tone and tuning.

BODHRAN

BASIC - For those who have very little or no experience (less than one year) playing the Irish drum. This class will explain how to hold the stick and strike the drum, how to play some basic reel and jig rhythms, and introduce some advanced techniques and rhythms.

ADVANCED -For those who are past the basic  level.  More advanced beatings and tricks will be introduced.

*Participants should bring along their bodhran and favourite tipper(s) (plus whatever irrigation equipment they might need). If they don't have a bodhran, a hard-cover book about the size of a high school binder will do.
