Highland Dancers, Parents and Professionals:

As in 2002 when BC last hosted the Canadian Championships, we have some extra treats in store for our dance program!

SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK:

Pre-events:

Saturday July 5 evening CeltWorld Dance! Music SPECTACULAR, ROYAL THEATRE, Victoria  (partial ticket proceeds go to ScotDance Canada).  Discount tickets for CeltFest students when they register online:  Registration Form .  Alternatively, tickets go on sale to the public in May at: Royal McPherson Box Office: 1-888-717-6121 or www.rmts.bc.ca

· Performance line-up includes reigning World Champion Highland Dancers and finalists, champion Irish dancers and Bob Worrall’s Celtic Sensation from Toronto: “Scantily Plaid”, ticket sales open to the public mid May

We are providing bus transportation for those who request it from downtown Victoria to the venue at the University, which is an hour and a half’s drive. If you are interested, please indicate in the check box on the Registration Form. Our registrar will respond as to which day you would prefer to leave: on Sunday night, or on Monday.  Click here for information or to order accommodations or meals at the University on Sunday night onwards for any members of your party (by June 16).

Monday July 7 afternoon, Malaspina University, Nanaimo:

   ·   anytime from 1:00-4:00:  Registration: Malaspina Theatre Lobby

·   3:00-4:30:  Highland Teachers’ reception: Hospitality Suite  

·   4:30-5:30: “Ask the Judge/Ask the World Championship Coach & their students” Forum: Education Bldg Amphitheatre. Dancers and Parents are invited to attend and ask questions of our distinguished panel of World Champions and their teachers. A rare opportunity!

·   6:30-7:15:  Dance Student Orientation: Gym

·   7:30+:  Concert and Ceilidh: Malaspina Theatre & Cafeteria : ALL INVITED

Summer School:

Tuesday July 8,  8:30-4:10 (5:20 if student’s schedule has a Block 6), Malaspina University Gym:  Instruction for Highland Dance, Irish Dance starts Dancer Wellness and performance enhancement programs as well as other dance and music electives are built into the Highland and Irish dance programs.  Other electives may be chose on your Registration Form.

A pre-premier part-time program is offered for dancers who know just a few of their basic dances. This course if offered Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Student Performance Opportunities and Concerts:

·Mon, Tues, Wed at Malaspina University Theatre & Cafeteria: doors open 7:00 Student-led Performance Concert Ceilidhs & CeltFestival Club, open to all***         

·Thursday, July 10:  doors open 6:30:  Raising the Roof Concert Ceilidh & Silent Auction VANCOUVER ISLAND CONFERENCE CENTRE,

·Friday, July 11:  8:30-11:00 last classes, followed by ASSEMBLY 11: 00-12:15 and Presentations

 ------Lunch (optional)  12:15-1:30 Malaspina Cafeteria--------DISMISSAL of SCHOOL

· For those students and staff staying on for the GALA, some extracurricular events are planned: TBA

Of further interest: Early-bird tuition discount for registrations received by May 7th!  Costs are very reasonable: full time study (daily snacks and ceilidhs included) just $295 for the week, $95 for the Pre-premier program!  Stay over accommodation on campus (optional) for only $26 a day, and delicious meals just $39 a day/$19 plus GST for children!
