LORI & INNES WATSON: Scots Kith & Kin

Monday, July 16, 2012 - 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Canadian College of Performing Arts Auditorium
CeltFest

Lori's musical roots lie firmly in the Borders of Scotland while her understanding and interpretation of Scots and worldwide traditions are undeniably resonant. With an accolade of awards and nominations including BBC Radio Scotland Young Trad Finalist, Danny Award Winners 2005, Burnsong Winner 2007, Eiserner Eversteiner Nominees 2007 and Celtic Colours Song House writer 2008, Lori & Innes Watson deliver a sparkling mix of traditional and original tunes and songs with stunning, inventive musicianship.

Scots Kith & Kin,  the opening show of the CeltFest 2012 concert series, stars siblings Lori Watson (fiddle, vocals) and Innes Watson (guitars, harmony vocals) from Birgham in the Scottish Borders. Their collaboration of Lowland and Highland styles along with varied European and popular influences result in a sound brimming with personality while the traditional melodies and themes are absolutely central to their music. They have toured extensively throughout the UK, Scandinavia, Spain, Austria, Germany and Nova Scotia playing folk clubs, arts centres, theatres and festival stages to great acclaim.

Opening for Lori & Innes will be the Strathspey Fiddlers, a delightful group of youth musicians visiting from the Highlands of Scotland.  Also featured will be the Scottish bardic performance of John Beaton
